The Oak Lawn Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is a forum for parents and teachers of Oak Lawn’s students to come together and help our Eagles Soar! The PTG works together to raise funds, enrich student education, and build a sense of community.
With the recent changes in the district, as well as within Oak Lawn, it is an exciting time to join the PTG. Oak Lawn’s faculty and staff is motivated to find new programs and initiatives that can target the younger grades remaining at Oak Lawn. It is our hope that this enhanced focus will also inspire others to bring their energy and ideas to the PTG. Below is an overview of the various committees within the PTG as well as general membership information.
What We Do
By holding a variety of fundraisers, the Oak Lawn PTG raises money to support additional social and educational functions that the students can then participate in. We also provide support to teachers whenever we can, since they are a necessary part of our organization...and the education of our children! These are some examples of activities that the PTO organizes and/or funds:
Ideas and assistance from outside the committees are encouraged and appreciated. These can be shared at the monthly meetings occurring throughout the year, Oak Lawn PTG on Facebook, or via email. Communication and participation are the keys to reaching our goals! There are many opportunities to help and volunteer, and all effort is appreciated.
Please like the Oak Lawn PTG page for events, periodic notifications and updates.
Facebook is free to sign up to if you do not have one already. This will be your best resource for PTG information. We already have over 10 events listed on the Facebook page for the 2017-2018 school year.
You voice can also be heard by emailing OaklawnPTG@yahoo.com
The fundraising committee is dedicated to finding and executing ways to raise money for the school. Some favorites from last year were: Color-a-Thon, The Eagle has Landed, the Fall Walk-a-Thon, Book Fairs, Holiday Shop, Paint Night, and various company sponsorships. One quick way you can help raise funds is by registering your Stop & Shop card with the A+ Rewards page (our code is 07565).
The Grant Committee is a great opportunity for those who want to help, but are not available during school hours. Since many of the available grants are dependent on specific programs, it is a great way to stay in touch with programs and initiatives planned by the school. Members will spend time researching possible grant opportunities for Oak Lawn. Did you know, many corporations offers grants for schools in their community, or the communities of their employees? Does your employer offer volunteer grants? If you are interested in being on this committee please contact us at OaklawnPTG@yahoo.com
As the name suggests, the mission of the Sunshine Committee is to brighten Oak Lawn School. This team works to spread joy, show appreciation, and build community. These are the members that plan and execute social events, and look for opportunities to show appreciation for the hard work of the faculty, staff, and parents.
Education enhancement and enrichment are key aspects of the Enrichment Committee. Childhood is a time to explore the world and spark curiosity. Enrichment Committee members will look for opportunities to provide increased exposure to various disciplines including the cultural arts, STEM, and the social sciences. This exposure can take many forms including, but not limited to: speakers, in-school activities, and field trips.
Volunteer Hours! Oak Lawn PTG is looking for high school students in need of volunteer hours to help with childcare during our monthly meetings. The meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month and we would need help from about 5:15-6:30 in the school library. If interested please let me know. Thank you
